With This Pizza, I Thee Wed

Monday is usually a quiet night at the restaurant, but not this week! Two of our favorite people in the world, Vince and Susie, just announced their engagement so we, and a few dozen more of their friends, threw them a party at the restaurant.

We first met Vince when he came to work for Bun as a waiter about three years ago. He’s a lovely guy, friendly and open, and was a big hit with the customers. He likes to sing while he works, and at first we were a bit iffy about this … maybe it would disturb the customers? But after several of our regulars mentioned to us how much they enjoyed hearing Vince sing, since he was obviously having such fun serving them, we let him go for it.

Susie was one of our regulars right from when Bun first opened the restaurant. She’s a graphic designer whose office is in the same building, and she often brings clients  for lunch, as well as stopping in on quiet nights to relax with a beer and a slice. I think she was a bit taken aback by Vince originally … she’s rather quiet, and doesn’t come across as a “big” personality, but she was soon won over by his charm and humor. The first time I heard him launch into the Sinatra classic “Fly Me to the Moon” and dedicate it to Susie, I realised where this relationship was going.

The high spot of the party was when the band we hired called for silence, invited Vince up on stage, and announced that for a special one-song-only performance, they would become “Vince and the Pizza Toppings”. And of course, the number they chose - beautifully arranged, with a full horn section - was “Fly Me to the Moon”.

Great party, great couple … congratulations Vince and Susie.
